Spring Mountain Adventure at Devil’s Thumb Ranch, Resort & Spa in Colorado

Exploring the Colorado Mountainside in the Off-Season!

Visiting Colorado in late April or May, after the influx of skiers and snow enthusiasts have quieted down, can be a really fun way to explore the mountains without all of the crowds and the high prices. There is something about being in the mountains that can bring about a sense of wonder and inspiration. My husband and I visited Devil’s Thumb Ranch, Resort & Spa back in 2019 in the winter season to enjoy their incredible cross country skiing and we were really excited to visit the property for the second time this April. We received a complimentary 3 night media stay as well as amazing massages in their spa and a food & beverage credit to explore their multiple dining options. This trip gave us a wonderful opportunity to unplug, reconnect and enjoy the breathtaking views, while also putting on our adventure hats (and our hiking boots) to explore some mountain trails. Here are some of the highlights from our stay!

Our Arrival

The Ranch was about a 2 hour drive outside of Denver’s airport and we arrived late (around 10pm) on a Friday night. We were welcomed with waters and a glass of champagne at check in. Our room had a luxurious log cabin feel to it with incredible views and a huge king bed. Here is the view from our balcony. We were so excited to wake up and explore on Saturday morning!

Hiking and Exploring the Property

There are multiple trails to explore on the property so we grabbed some coffee at the cafe and then visited the activity center to get some input on the trail conditions. We then put on our hiking boots and spent a couple of hours exploring the grounds and walking on the blue extra trail enjoying the fresh mountain air.

Wellness Tip: When hiking, make sure you stay extra hydrated, start out slow and listen to your body, especially with the higher altitude. And don’t forget to wear your sunscreen! Even though it was cool, the sun was really strong.

Fun Ranch Activities

There were multiple daily ranch activities available like mountain biking, horseback riding, fly fishing and more. We decided to sign up for archery and we had a lot of fun with some friendly competition!

Hiking Off Property

On Day 2 we decided to explore some nearby hiking trails and the town of Winter Park. The activity center at the Ranch recommended a trail popular with the locals that was dry with all of the snow thawing that had been happening. It was called the Phases and it took us up a mountain through a forested area and it was incredibly enjoyable! We also decided to venture further out and we took a drive to Monarch Lake trailhead, which was pretty much still completely covered in snow but was breathtakingly beautiful!

Enjoying the Pool and the Spa

Upon returning back to the Ranch we enjoyed swimming in the indoor/outdoor pool as well as the outdoor hot tub overlooking the mountains. We then headed to the spa for 50 minute Ranch Creek Signature Massages. Feeling relaxed and rejuvenated, we headed back to the room to get ready for dinner, grabbed a drink and headed to the game room to enjoy some shuffle puck and pool before going to Ranch House Restaurant for an incredible dinner.

After a 3 night stay it was time to head home, and with all of the fun and relaxing activities, it felt like our trip had been much longer! If you would like to visit Devil’s Thumb Ranch, Resort & Spa or if you would like to learn more about their events and activities you can do so here!
