A Winter Time Family Friendly Adventure and Wellness Getaway at Crystal Mountain Michigan

It’s time to fully embrace the winter season, snow, chilly temperatures and all!

Winter time is a season where people tend to spend less time outdoors, but there are numerous fun things that you can do with your family in the winter to boost your energy, build connection and have a lot of fun along the way! You may find that you are less active in the winter or that you don’t go out quite as much, especially if you live in a colder climate, but this doesn’t have to be the case! Making an effort to embrace winter by spending time in nature, safely trying out some snow sports, exercising and having fun new adventures with family and friends are all ways to boost your mood and support your well-being amid the cold weather. This winter my family and I were really excited to drive out to Crystal Mountain Michigan, which is a resort in Thompsonville, Mi, for a fun ski and wellness adventure. We received a complimentary 2 night media stay and ski package which gave us a wonderful opportunity to unplug, reconnect and explore, while also testing out our ski legs.

Our Cozy 3 Bedroom Cottage

Upon arrival we were given the keys to our 3 bedroom cottage and it really was perfect. The cottage had a cozy feel with lots of warm touches including a fireplace and games making it incredibly easy to feel at home and ready to relax and connect. The location was super convenient with the outdoor hot tub, fitness center, pool, spa, ice rink, cafe, market, restaurants and ski slopes all only a two or three minute walk away. There was a closet accessible from the outside to store our snow and ski gear and the setup made it really easy to get off to the slopes in no time. There were a lot of lodging options at Crystal Mountain from ski in ski out hotel rooms, bungalows, mountain top homes and more.

Hitting the Slopes

I am a cautious skier and I loved the wide variety of skill levels available! I had plenty of green and blue runs to choose from, and the Crystal Mountain team was working hard to make snow whenever possible to have as many runs open and running as they could. Overall Crystal Mountain has 59 downhill runs, three terrain parks, six chairlifts and two magic carpets, but their availability will depend on the weather. They also have cross country skiing, fat tire biking, outdoor laser tag and ice skating!

Michigan Legacy Art Park

We received a guided tour through Michigan Legacy Art Park and it definitely exceeded my expectations! It combined a beautiful hike through the forest with unique contemporary art sculptures which were connected in someway to Michigan. Michigan Legacy Art Park is located on the grounds of Crystal Mountain on a 30-acre preserve with 2 miles of hiking trails.

Enjoying the Sculptures in Michigan Legacy Art Park

There were so many unique pieces of art on our hike! It was a great way to boost creativity while also getting some fresh air and exercise.

Rejuvenating Time at the Fitness Center and Spa

In preparation for our second day on the slopes, I signed up for a ski conditioning class in the fitness center and it was a lot of fun! It helped me build stability and balance to prepare me for a safe and fun day out on the ski hills. They had a variety of fitness class options while we were there, including a candlelight yoga class which sounded super relaxing! Later that day I was able to enjoy the amenities at Crystal Mountain Spa including their relaxing lounge, exclusive outdoor hot tub, infrared sauna and steam room with complimentary 2 hour access. It was a great time for me to relax and take some solo time for myself. As I left the spa I felt refreshed and excited for some more family fun!

Until Next Time!

After a wonderful time, it was time to head back home. Thank you Crystal Mountain Michigan for an amazing winter getaway! We will be back!
