In today's episode of two minutes and motivation, I'm going to be sharing with you three habits that could be negatively interfering with your sleep. I chatted this week with Diane Macedo, who is an ABC news anchor, and also occasionally as an anchor for Good morning America. She's the author of the Sleep fix.

So we talked a lot about sleep and that got me thinking about this topic I want to dive a little deeper into it with you today. Now, remember this is not medical advice or treatment recommendations. Always talk to your healthcare provider about recommendations specific to you.

So the first thing that could be interfering with their sleep is if you're someone who is trying too hard, it's really going to interfere with your sleep if you're thinking I have to fall asleep and you're trying to make it happen, that's very different than the state you need to be in, to fall into a restful state of sleep. So in order to get into that restful state, you need to let go, you need to relax. And that is very different than the active state you're in throughout the day.

So trying too hard can actually negatively impact your sleep quality and the ability to fall asleep.

The second thing is your caffeine usage. Particularly if you're having caffeine in the afternoon or late morning, some people can be extremely sensitive to caffeine. Even that morning coffee, if you're someone who's really sensitive to it, could potentially be impacting you in the evening.

So pay attention to your caffeine intake. Remember there's caffeine and things other than coffee, like chocolate. So pay attention to that, to see if you are someone who could be potentially impacted by that

Now the third thing is that you want to try and avoid checking your phone at night. If you're checking your phone right before you go to bed, that could negatively impact your sleep.

Especially if you're seeing emails from work or you're seeing stressful headlines, that again will get you into this active state and it's not going to help your brain settle down. Let go and fall into that restful slumber. So try and avoid checking your phone before bed.

Again, these three things are number one, trying too hard. Number two, caffeine and number three, checking your phone before bed.

You want to dive a little deeper into this topic. Check out that episode with Diane and until next time, this is Kristel Bauer with Live Greatly inspiring you to awaken your ultimate potential.
