4 Key Components of Leadership Development for More Success, Happiness & Profitability
By Kristel Bauer
Leaders are in a position of power to set the tone for their team and their company or organization. Great leaders have the potential to make a significantly positive impact. On the flip side, poor leaders have the potential to have a significantly detrimental impact. Investing in leadership development is critical for the success, happiness, and retention of employees. It is also critical for the profitability of the company and overall company culture.
I saw some of the negative impacts that poor leadership can have on employee well-being & retention when I was practicing in healthcare and seeing patients in an Integrative Psychiatry practice. This allowed me to clearly see the dire need for more specific leadership training focusing on mindset, resilience, stress management and other key qualities which leaders desperately need to be in a headspace to promote positive change, employee well-being and success. Throughout my experience in the business and media space, and the many conversations I have had with top leaders and CEOs on my Live Greatly podcast, I have been able to dive even deeper into leadership and how to set leaders and companies up for success. As a Keynote speaker, I share powerful insights and actionable strategies for leadership teams and below are 4 key components which can have a significantly positive impact on your group or organization.
1. Build Self Awareness – Great leaders are self-aware leaders. To effectively lead, you need to know who you are, and you need to understand your strengths and your weaknesses. Leaders that show up authentically set the example for their team to be able to show up authentically as well. Self-awareness is also critical for building empathy and emotional intelligence as well as promoting inclusion and diversity.
2. Optimize Communication – Communication is a means to building trust and creating connection. When leaders develop skills to excel with their verbal and nonverbal communication, they are better equipped to create a psychologically safe space for their group. Leaders should be taking the time to get to know their team, understanding their strengths, struggles, personal values, and goals.
3. Make Well-Being a Priority – Leaders need to lead by example. When leaders prioritize health, sleep, self-care, and unplugging they are creating a company culture that prioritizes well-being. Leaders should create and respect healthy boundaries, setting the stage for a team that is thriving at work and in life.
4. Embrace a Growth Mindset – How we talk to ourselves and how we interpret events and situations in our lives can either propel us forward or keep us stuck. Leaders are going to be faced with setbacks and challenges and by embracing a growth mindset they will be setting themselves and their teams up for resiliency, professional development, innovation, and success.
